A regular series introducing the professional guides who help make Greatland Adventures a success.
“I’m a workaholic, but I love this job.”
Not everyone is fortunate enough to use those two phrases together, but Greatland Adventures guide Diego can and does, proudly. Joining the team in 2017 when he walked into the office after spotting an employment advertisement, Diego’s first guiding experiences were spent showing off the aurora borealis during the winter months. Since then, he’s added Matanuska Glacier tours and cruise transfers to his repertoire, where he “gets to see some cool *stuff*.”
If he could, however, lead more multi-day tours, an opportunity that offers more chances to become acquainted with guests on a deeper level. Diego also speaks Spanish and a bit of French, and says that’s definitely a help when it comes to explaining Alaska’s unique landscapes.
With another gig with Ravn Alaska airlines, Diego doesn’t have a lot of down time, but when he is free you can find him roaming the area’s scenic spots, camera in hand, looking for that perfect shot. Or, some days he can be spotted mountain biking Southcentral Alaska’s incredible single tracks or skiing the backcountry come winter with his wife, currently stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.
