Are you a northern lights enthusiast visiting Alaska this winter? Want to learn more about what the aurora borealis or northern lights really look like from night to night? Check out our aurora live cam! Give our YouTube channel a spin and become part of the Greatland Adventures aurora vibe! We are live streaming from our cabin in Fairbanks, Alaska every night. You can join us by clicking the “Live” tab on our YouTube channel. (Please subscribe to our channel for all aurora and Alaska fun!)

Why do we have an aurora live cam?

  • It’s a trustworthy source for information on the weather and aurora status. Visitors can see if it’s clear or cloudy, check whether the aurora is out (or not), and check on the moon’s brightness. You might also be able to see the Big Dipper! We want to be the first place you check before heading out for an aurora chase.
  • You can chase the northern lights from your sofa, no matter where you live! In Alaska, we are lucky to be able to plan our aurora chases whenever the sky is clear. But we understand not everyone has this opportunity. When you are here, join us for the chase in person but until then, join us virtually and be part of the community.
  • You can view previous broadcasts and highlights on the YouTube channel. The camera is an excellent teaching tool for those new to northern lights viewing, as predicting this atmospheric phenomenon is based upon several factors, so displays vary in length, style, and intensity from night to night.
  • For tour guests, it’s your chance to say hi to your friends and family back home! Or show us your dancing skills. Like these guys!

Where is the aurora live cam located?

Our private cabin just north of Fairbanks has a real-time camera aimed at the northeastern sky, which is the perfect way to capture a glimpse of emerging aurora displays as they begin to swirl around the heavens. We operate our Fairbanks Northern Lights Tour from this cabin, but we also visit several other favorite aurora locations throughout the evening should conditions be better in other areas.
